Overview
Remote Content Connector (RCC) allows learners to launch training courses from an external learning system that supports AICC.
Using RCC, administrators can download a course package from Performance and import it into another learning platform. When a learner launches the course from that platform, Performance verifies access and opens the course. Course progress and completion are then sent back to the external system.
Permissions
Access to RCC is controlled by administrator permissions.
Depending on your role, you may be able to:
- Manage RCC connections
- Download RCC packages
- Download RCC packages for all available connections
If you do not see RCC options in Performance, contact your system administrator.
Set up a Remote Content Connection
Remote Content Connections (RCCs) are created and maintained by the TLN support team. If you require a new RCC connection, please contact Support.
The settings below are included for reference and can help you understand how your RCC connection is configured.
Connection Settings
| Setting | Description |
|---|---|
| Customer | Display name for the external learning system. This name is also used in the RCC package filename. |
| AICC URL | Allowed launch URL(s) for the external learning system. Enter one URL per line. Do not include http://, https://, ports, or query strings. Domain-only entries match that domain and its subdomains. |
| Auto Log On User | Automatically signs the learner in using information received from the external learning system. |
| Search Field | User field used to match the incoming learner record (commonly Username). |
| User Prefix / Suffix | Optional text added before or after the learner identifier to help ensure uniqueness across multiple external systems. |
| Auto Create User | Automatically creates a user account when no matching learner record is found. Requires Auto Log On User to be enabled. |
| Default Email | Email address used when automatically creating users, unless email is used as the matching field. |
| Default Org Code | Organization assigned to automatically created users. This setting also controls which organization managers can download RCC packages for the connection. |
| Store student email when available | Updates the learner's email address when an email value is provided by the external learning system. |
| Open in New Window | Opens the course in a separate browser window rather than within the external learning system. Learners may need to allow popups. |
| Retry until pass | Allows learners to continue retrying a course until a passing result is achieved before the attempt is finalized. |
| Active | Determines whether the connection can be used for course launches and RCC package downloads. Inactive connections cannot be used. |
Tip: Use a clear and descriptive Customer name, such as Partner Name - Production, to make connections and downloaded packages easier to identify.
Download an RCC Package
- From the course list (or related course actions), choose Download RCC Package.
- Choose the appropriate RCC connection if prompted.
- Download the ZIP file.
- Import the ZIP package into your external learning system as an AICC course package.
Note: RCC packages can only be generated for WBT courses.
How Course Launches Work
When a learner launches a course from the external learning system:
- Learner information is passed to Performance.
- Performance identifies the learner and verifies access.
- The course opens in Performance.
- Completion information is returned to the external learning system.
Depending on your organization's configuration, learners may be required to sign in before the course launches.
Course Access Rules Still Apply
RCC does not bypass normal Performance access controls.
Learners may be unable to launch a course if:
- The learner does not have access to the campus
- The learner does not have access to the course
- Required prerequisites have not been completed
- The course requires purchase or enrollment
- The course is inactive
- The course is locked
Common Messages Learners May See
| Error Code | Message | Description |
| 100 | General connection or system error | The launch could not be completed due to a connection or system issue. Verify the RCC connection is active, the AICC URL is configured correctly, and the correct RCC package was used. |
| 102 | More than one user matched your credentials | Multiple user accounts match the learner information received during launch. |
| 103 | User account is inactive | A matching user account was found, but it is inactive. |
| 104 | No campus access | The learner does not have access to the campus containing the course. |
| 105 | No course access | The learner does not have permission to access the course. |
| 200 | Prerequisites not met | Required prerequisite training has not been completed. |
| 201 | Purchase required | Enrollment or purchase is required before access is allowed. |
| 202 | Course inactive | The course is not currently available. |

Troubleshooting
If a learner cannot launch a course:
- Verify the learner has access to the appropriate campus.
- Verify the learner has access to the course.
- Confirm any required prerequisites have been completed.
- Confirm the course is active and available.
- If the course opens in a new window, ensure popup blockers are disabled.
If issues persist, contact Support and provide:
- Learner name
- Username or login ID
- Course name
- Date and time of the issue
- Screenshot of any error message (if available)
Frequently Asked Questions
Can the same course be used with multiple external learning systems?
Yes. A separate RCC package can be downloaded for each RCC connection.
Why don't I see the Download RCC Package option?
The course must be a WBT course, and your administrator role must include RCC download permissions.
What if the course launches but nothing appears?
The course may have opened in a popup window. Check for blocked popups and allow popups for the Performance site.
What if a learner receives an access-related error?
Verify the learner's account, campus access, course access, and prerequisite completion. If everything appears correct, contact Support with the details of the issue.
